Medical transcriptionist positions: We are a Medical Transcription Service Organization (MTSO) who prides itself on outstanding customer service and quality to our clients. We are seeking additional transcriptionists who are motivated and experienced. All positions with AKVTS are as an Independent Contractor (IC) working from your own home office supplying your own PC/foot pedal/reference materials. (We supply the software links.) As an IC, you are free to set your own work hours, but must maintain some regular attendance patterns for scheduling purposes and satisfactory quality and TAT to meet client needs. As an IC, there are no additional benefits. Experience with ESL dictators preferred. Must have high-speed Internet, Windows XP and/or 2007, MS Word, USB foot pedal. Duties of a Medical Transcriptionist:

  • Transcribe medical dictation utilizing Emdat software with compatible foot pedal.
  • Transcription may include acute care, specialty clinic notes, medical oncology, hospice and injury reports.
  • Transcribers must maintain AKVTS’s performance expectations.
  • Transcriptionist recognizes, interprets, and evaluates inconsistencies, discrepancies, and inaccuracies in medical dictation, and appropriately documents these inconsistencies.
  • Flags reports requiring the attention of QA staff or client staff.
  • Uses reference materials and web sites appropriately and efficiently to facilitate the accuracy, clarity, and completeness of reports.
  • Transcriptionist meets quality and productivity standards and deadlines established by AKVTS and/or client.
  • Verifies demographic information for accuracy and completeness with available tools.
  • Checks formatting of reports before completion.
  • Demonstrates ability to follow style guides and client account specifications of varying specialties. Demonstrates an understanding of the medicolegal implications and responsibilities related to the transcription of patient records, including confidentiality, release of information, medical records as legal evidence, etc.


  • Some weekend work may be required either occasionally or consistently depending on work flow.
  • Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, AAMT guidelines and procedures in the AAMT BOS.
  • Understanding of pediatric oncology, radiation oncology and medical oncology is a plus.
  • Successful completion of Medical Transcription program or equivalent plus 7 years work experience in acute care, 5 years minimum in Medical Oncology.
  • Uses reference materials and web sites appropriately and efficiently to facilitate the accuracy, clarity, and completeness of reports.
  • Excellent listening skills and ability to understand diverse accents and dialects and varying dictation styles.
  • Ability to use excellent English grammar, punctuation and spelling. Computer skills, including MS Word and Windows required. Experience with Emdat preferred.
